JP Tuzla International Airport was established by the Assembly of Tuzla – Podrinje Canton by the Law on the Establishment of JP Tuzla International Airport – Dubrava Airport in 1998. Based on the Dayton Peace Agreement and the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the BiH Council of Ministers and the IFOR peacekeeping force, the airport was opened to civil air traffic in the same year and served as a joint military / civilian airport.
In the period from October 10, 1998 to December 1, 2006, the Tuzla International Airport was closed three times for civilian air traffic by the international military peacekeeping forces, which used the Dubrava air base primarily for their own air operations. On December 1, 2006, the international peacekeeping military forces completely left the Dubrava air base.
After the departure of the international peacekeeping military forces, JP Tuzla International Airport provided the technical conditions for meeting the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) standards and 05.06.2008. acquired a temporary Certificate for Public Use of the airport in international air traffic for a period of one year.
By obtaining this Certificate, the airport is open for civil air traffic.
Implementation of inspection supervision of authorized institutions for civil aviation of BiH, 05.06.2009. JP International Airport Tuzla has obtained a Certificate for public use in international air traffic for an unlimited period.
